Skin is the largest organ of our body and first line of defense against diseases and injury. It is a part of the 'integumentary system'. It forms a barrier that prevents many harmful substances from entering the body such as dust and pollution, as well as germs and toxic substances. It also plays an important role in regulating body temperature. Now the question arises that how can we protect it? Unknowingly we do many things which is harmful for our skin. As we all should accept that no chemical products, or makeup can make your skin look great forever unless you yourself strife for it to look radiant. So let us discover some of the common blunders that we make and learn some precise ways to get that flawless and beautiful skin.

So without wasting any time, let's get started-

WORST SKIN CARE HABITS

1. POPPING THE ZITS-

Pimples are the result of clogged and infected sebaceous glands also called oil ducts due to which our skin can experience swollen, red lesions filled with pus. But a very common mistake we do to get rid of them is to pop or squeeze them. This makes the matter even worse as when we squeeze them the bacteria is pushed more deep causing further breakouts. Moreover, when we touch that zit or pimple, the bacteria from our hands are transferred on to the skin, which again causes more breakouts. The most effective way to deal with pimple is to have patience and let the pimple disappear on its own.

2. OVER WASHING THE FACE-

It may sound inadequate that washing our face can also harm our skin though it's one of the most important part of the skin care routine. But anything in excess no matter how good it is can have harmful results. So excess of washing the face can not only result in skin irritation but it can actually force to the skin to produce more and more oil. It can also lead to rashes and other skin problems as over washing harms the skin and weakens it. It also strips the face with it's natural oils resulting in making it more dry.

3. OVERUSE OF CHEMICALS-

We must be mistaken by the idea that by using large amount of skin care products we can get our dream skin. But it's the bitter truth that almost 99% of the products are indulged with toxic chemicals. So try to stick with basic and natural things.

4. NOT WASHING FABRICS REGULARLY-

Some of us must be very lazy to wash our clothes daily and wear them again. But the fabric isn't lazy to transfer it's germs on to your skin. It's advisable to wash those fabrics regularly or at least once a week which comes in direct contact with our skin. This is however a small but effective step. Believe me it worths.

5. COMBINING MILK AND SALT-

Combining milk and salt can be harmful for our skin as because of the chemical reactions taking place within our body. It's because they both aren't compatible. If want to know more about it, click here.

Ending up here with the negatives and it's time for the positives to come. Let's see what are those habits which benefits the skin and helps you get that beautiful skin.

1. FOOD-

  • ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS- We should add foods in our diet which are rich in vitamin A and best source of it includes eggs, cod liver oil, orange and yellow vegetables, fruits and spinach. Other important vitamin needed is Vitamin C which is present in lemons and Indian gooseberries. Last but not the least, it is undeniably important to add foods with 'dietary fibres' such as cereals, peas, beans, potatoes, e.t.c.
  • AVOID SUGAR- Excess of sugar in your diet causes inflamation that can lead to wrinkles and saggy skin and can make your skin quality worse.
  • AVOID PAKAGED FOOD- Highly processed food have high level of additives that your body interprets as toxins. This leads to malfunctioning of the liver. This also leads to decline in the skin quality and might produce acne.
  • CUT DOWN SPICES- Spicy foods have warming properties which can trigger acne and other inflammatory skin conditions. It also increases the production of bile in excess in liver which is the ultimate enemy to your skin.

2. AVOID STRESS-

Stress can affect your whole body including your hair nails and skin. Stress causes a chemical response in your body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive. Stress produces a hormone called Cortisol which enhances the ability of glands to produce oil and therefore resulting in more oily as well as pimple prone skin.

3. MAINTAINING PROPER SKIN CARE ROUTINE-

  • WASHING FACE 2 TIMES A DAY- Double cleansing is a great way to achieve refreshed skin without over drying your skin. Ideally you should be washing your face twice a day, and once at night. Please don't skip the later as it is equally important.
  • OVER EXPOSURE TO SUN- Over exposure to sun is very damaging as it can cause sunburn, premature skin ageing, skin damage and the main risk factor is Skin Cancer which is caused due to UV Ray's from the sun.
  • AVOID CONTACT WITH DUST- Contact with dust clogs the skin pores forcing the skin to produce more oil and it ultimately leads to breakouts. It is recommended to cover your face when you're out and washing face is a must when you return.

4. PROPER HYDRATION-

Hydration is the master key to keep our skin healthy and prevent skin problems that occur frequently. To fully hydrate your skin you should drink plenty of water everyday. If we don't consume water then our skin will lose it's moisture and will become loose.
But just drinking water is not the way, the main criteria is to drink it correctly. If you want to know the mistakes that you commit while drinking water then just click here.

5. USE OF COLD WATER RATHER THAN HOT WATER-

Cold showers are the most natural way of maintaining your skin and hair. On the other hand, cold water tightens the skin and it's pores. This helps to fight the dirt from getting in. As hot water has the tendency to dry out our skin, so it's better to use cold water.
