Eyes are among the most precious organs of the body. It is hard to imagine our lives without eyes. If you want to feel the importance of eyes which you normally don't feel, just cover your eyes with a black cloth and do your normal work for an hour. You'll realise that how much important they're to us. However intentionally or unintentionally we're doing things on a daily basis that damage our eyes leading to blurred vision and other eye problems. Read below and I promise that you have a clear vision of what you should do to get those long lasting beautiful and attractive eyes.


So let's begin with 5 habits that damage our eyes and invite other problems.

1. RUBBING THE EYES-

Eye is a very delicate organ. people who have a habit of rubbing their eyes seriously damage the tiny blood vessels beneath its surface. Moreover, if your hands are not clean, the germs on your finger tips gets transferred causing infection, irritation and redness. So if you feel itchy near the eye surface, gently calm it down.


2. NOT WEARING SUN GLASSES-

Sunglasses were not only designed to become a fashion accessory but also to prevent bright sunlight and HIGH END VISIBLE (HEV) light from damaging or discomforting the eye. Long exposure to sun's UV rays lead to sun burn of cornea causing premature ageing of eyes or even cataract. So make a habit of wearing sunglasses that provide 100% protection from UV rays.


3. STARING AT SCREENS-

Staring at screens dry up the surface of eye. If you stare at a screen of our computer or phone without blinking, it leads to accumulation of dead cells which lead to loss of vision and many visionary problems. If you don't have any choice except to stare at the screen like in some jobs, then just take a break every hour and get up from the place and walk around. If possible then drink water each time as it will hydrate the eyes.


4. STUDYING IN LOW LIGHT-

Our elders have always advised us to use table lamps while studying at night. Reading or writing in dim light puts undue pressure on eye muscles making it weak over time and if you are using mobile phones lying on bed when lights are turned off then you're stepping forward towards a future that is completely dark, as it may lead to many vision impairment.


5. READING WHILE TRAVELLING-

Reading or writing while travelling is not recommended in a way that your eyes will be under constant stress to read, because the text you're trying to read is moving or vibrating, thus making it difficult for your eyes to focus on the text. Nowadays, books have been replaced by smartphones. Focusing on reading the tiny letters on the phone hurts your eyes which may result in blurred vision. So avoid unnecessary chatting or reading and writing while travelling.


Now let us see what are those 5 things doing which we can reverse the damage that we might have done to our eyes.

1. STRENGHTENING EYE MUSCLES-

We train our body muscles like traps, biceps and triceps, so why not the eye muscles. Yes, you heard it right, you can train your eye muscles. You will be amazed to see the results if you do these 3 exercises just for 3-5 minutes a day (ideally in the morning before 9:00 AM).


  • Move your eyes clockwise in circular motion for 30 seconds and then rotate it anti-clockwise for 30 seconds.
  • Close your eyes tightly for 3 seconds and gently open. Repeat it for 3-4 times.
  • Last but not least, rub your hands and keep it in your eyes. As the warmth from your palm will calm the stress from the eyes after the exercises.


The main problem arises that we tend to forget practising them. I recommend to put alarms in your cell phones at least for some days.

2. WALKING ON THE GRASS-

Walking in the grass bare foot triggers many acupressure points providing numerous benefits to eyes. Moreover, natural greenery soothes the eyes when looked towards them for a while. So try to spend time among the mother nature.


3. FOOD FOR EYES-

If you want your eyes to live longer, it is very important to include such foods which benefits your eyes in your diet. All green leafy vegetables are rich in xeaxanthin and lutein which are two most important nutrients for eyes. Carots being rich in beta carotene and Vitamin A should be included in the form of salads or juices. Indian gooseberry or Amla is very rich in Vitamin C which is amazing for eyes.


FUN FACT- Did you know 1 Indian gooseberry consists Vitamin C equivalent to 20 oranges.

Apart from all these, include omega-3 rich foods like fish and flax seeds in your diet.

4. EYE WASH ROUTINE- 

One good habit that you should inculcate for better vision is to fill your mouth full of water and then wash your eyes with fresh water. The purpose of filling the mouth with water is to expand the eye area so that it is washed properly.


5. HOME REMEDY-

At last, I want to share with you a tried and tested home remedy which is effective for all kinds of eye problems.
All you need is-


  • Almonds(Badaam)
  • Fennel seeds(Saunf)
  • Mishri


Take them in 1:1:1 ratio or equal quantities and grind them in a mixer. Store the mixture in an air-tight container.

Just have 1 tablespoon of it with a glass of milk every night before sleeping. Do it just for 90 days and you'll see the remedy doing wonders to your eyes.

NOTE- What I mean by mishri is not the one we get as a 'prashad' after a worship, its just a bigger form of refined unhealthy sugar which we use daily in our house. What I mean here is rock sugar, if you can't get it near your home, try it buying online if no problem.

Although regular refined sugar (regular sugar) can be used instead but it will have less significant effect.

Here's a bonus tip-


MAGICAL SALIVA-

What now Iam going to share might hear you a bit gross and unhygienic but one should apply his/her saliva on the edges of the eyes as well as on eye lids. It has anti-bacterial properties and can even cure dark circles permanently if applied for 60 days regularly. That is why animal cure their deepest wounds just by licking them. Try it and believe me it's worth it.
